Beyond the Walls 2021 – Beyond the Walls is an annual event serving the greater-Magnolia community through a focused day of service. The focus is on building relationships that share the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.  On May 16th we had an amazing group of volunteers working off-site with construction projects and yard work, as well as groups on-site creating AniMeals for seniors’ furry companions, art work for the homebound, toiletry kits for the homeless and prison ministries, and birthday sets for underprivileged youth.

Extended Beyond the Walls – Wildwood is a church that feels called to serve the community through acts of service throughout the entire year! The Extended Beyond the Walls group gathers regularly to help provide home repair and give attention to special projects. If you know of someone in need of assistance or would like to volunteer, please contact Mike Cooley.

Family Assistance Ministry

The Family Assistance Ministry encompasses our Food Pantry, Stitches of Love group and partnership with Houston Furniture Bank in addition to needs identified throughout the community.  To see our outreach for 2021, please view our report.  We look forward to becoming an active partner with Family Promise in 2022.  While the Family Assistance Ministry no longer provides financial assistance, we can provide resources for prescriptions, utilities, and various programs. NOTE:  For more information about services or ways to serve, please contact Cindy O’Donnell (Coordinator).

Food Pantry – Each Thursday (with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas week) we serve clients from 10am to 12:30pm.  In partnership with the Montgomery County Food Bank, we are able to distribute groceries to families in need.

Stitches of Love – Our newest group is designed to bless shut-ins and those going through medical procedures by providing prayer shawls and lap blankets.  If you knit or crochet and are interested in this ministry, please email Cindy.  We have donated yarn, patterns, etc. to get you started.  Our group meets again on June 28th at 2:00p in the Youth Center.  Bring a friend!

Houston Furniture Bank – Downsizing? Remodeling?  The HFB can use your gently used furniture and household items to bless others.  For a very minimal (tax deductible) fee (<$100), they will pick up an entire truck full of furniture/items allowing their liaison groups to offer options to families in need.  Visit their website for more pick-up information.  For drop-offs, they are located at 295 Sawdust Rd., Houston, TX 77380 – (713) 842-9771.  Hours are Tuesday-Saturday: 9-6; Monday: 9-5; Sunday: Closed.  (Please call ahead to make drop-off/pick-up arrangements.)

Family Promise – It is our hope to become active partners with this organization in 2022.  Family Promise understands the needs of vulnerable families and offers innovative programs — such as tenancy preparation, financial literacy, and virtual career pathway training — to address them in a cost-effective, targeted approach. Their static site is to be finished early in 2022 and church partners will assist with evening meals and overnight hosting.  To learn more, visit their website

Hearts & Hugs Bear Ministry – Do you like to sew? Come help us make homemade stuffed bears for children in need. These bears are shared within the community with children who need special comfort, at baptisms, in moments of crisis, and in hospitals around the world.                                               To volunteer, contact Chris DuBois.

Meal Ministry – Make a meal for a church family that has experienced a life event such as childbirth, illness or death. Contact Karen Schafer.

Seasonal Collections – There are special invitations throughout the year to share specific items with those in need in the community. Opportunities include Christmas gifts, items needed for children in coordination with local school counselors, summer food supplies in partnership with Society of Samaritans, and other special ways to share with others. Clear drop-off locations are always available at the entrances to worship spaces or in the church office.

Emergency Missions

Emergency Use Shelter – We believe the facility at Wildwood is God’s gift for this community. In moments when a shelter is necessary for the community, we partner with the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management to provide a safe space for those in need of refuge. If you’re interested in being “on reserve” in the event we open as a shelter, please contact Mitzi Shaddix.

Disaster Response Team – You never know when a moment of crisis will come and your neighbors will be in need. Wildwood works with the Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church to focus teams to those places in greatest need. Work here may include transporting equipment and supplies to disaster areas, placing tarps on homes to prevent water damage, working on homes damaged by a disaster, or being a listening ear to those in crisis. If you would like to serve others in this way, please contact Mike Cooley.
